Advanced Clinical Practitioners

Advanced Clinical Practitioners are specialist clinicians who are highly trained to examine, assess and prescribe medications. They work closely with the doctors to provide a high standard of medical care. You maybe offered an appointment with an ACP as an alternative to a doctor. They are trained to a masters degree level and are able to treat a wide variety of illnesses and conditions.

Practice Nurses

Practice Nurses provide a wide range of services including travel health advice and vaccinations, injections, pill checks, health checks, cervical smears and chronic disease management.

Healthcare Assistant

Healthcare Assistants are important members of the team supporting the nursing staff and doctors. Their services include blood samples, blood pressure testing, ECGs, glucose tolerance testing, assisting with minor operations and health checks.

Pharmacists

Clinical Pharmacists are highly qualified health professionals, who are specialists in medicines and how they work. They work as part of the general practice team to improve value and outcomes from medicines.
This includes providing extra help to manage long-term conditions, advice for those on multiple medicines and better access to health checks. All pharmacists are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Physician Associates

Physician Associates are medically trained, generalist healthcare professionals, who work alongside doctors or work autonomously to provide medical care as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.

They can: take medical histories from patients, carry out physical examinations, see patients with undifferentiated diagnoses, see patients with long-term chronic conditions, formulate differential diagnoses and management plans, perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, develop and deliver appropriate treatment and management plans, request and interpret diagnostic studies, and provide health promotion and disease prevention advice for patients.

First Contact Physiotherapists

First Contact Physiotherapists help people affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice. They maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease.

They can assess, all soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains or sports injuries, Arthritis, Problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons or bones, eg tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, ankle sprains, Spinal problems including lower back, mid-back and neck pain, Spinal-related pain in arms or legs, including nerve symptoms, eg pins and needles or numbness, Post-orthopaedic surgery (may differ between localities).
